2016 EMMY NOMINATIONS kNOwMORE NONPROFITS

Founded by the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestras in July 2013, North Limestone MusicWorks fosters positive youth development by providing equitable access to intense, high-quality music education for Lexington’s Northside district. All MusicWorks students attend Arlington Elementary School, a Title 1 school where 95% of students participate in the free or reduced lunch program. MusicWorks is an El Sistema – inspired initiative operating daily after school for 35 second, third and fourth graders who receive free instrument use and instruction from conservatory-trained active musicians..

diss qr tagTwo significant challenges facing the NoLi neighborhood are student retention and academic development. Arlington Elementary has named student retention as the chief obstacle for MusicWorks to overcome. The faculty seek to cultivate lasting relationships with students and their families, thus making the program and anchor of the community and ultimately creating an incentive to remain in the neighborhood.

The NoLi MusicWorks’ primary goal is to use music education as a tool to teach positive social values and to make each child feel that they are an asset within their community. By nurturing interpersonal development skills in an orchestral setting, MusicWorks seeks to inspire its students to achieve more in their personal and academic pursuits, alongside their musical endeavors. The goal of MusicWorks is not to produce professional musicians but rather to use the skills cultivated in an immersion-style orchestral setting to develop healthy, contributing citizens.

TWO Emmy Nominations For kNOwMORE Nonprofits

kNOwMORE FUN- Lexington Calendar Project

On May 20th, kNOwMORE Nonprofits had an amazing time at the Lexington Calendar Project, where local nonprofits and business leaders networked to find innovative ways to collaborate in the future. “Everybody in Lexington knows everybody else by one connection, so we just connect the dots,” explained Shawn Burns, the coordinator of this project. In addition to the networking opportunities, Lexington Calendar Project features a nonprofit each month. Laura Hatlfield from Partners for Youth shared with us that this project brings out many partners for her nonprofit organization that she couldn’t get to know otherwise. Partners for Youth was featured in the May edition of Lexington Calendar Project. For more information, visit http://lexcalendarproject.com/

kNOwMORE NOMINATED FOR TWO EMMY AWARDS!

April 2015

kNOwMORE Nonprofits is pleased to announce that we have received two nominations at the Ohio Valley Regional Emmy Awards! The following stories have been nominated: Episode 9: Nonprofits and Water, featuring Bluegrass Greensource and Episode 8: Nonprofits and Health, featuring Surgery on Sunday. We are very grateful for a talented production team and for the ongoing support from our sponsors. Additionally, we’d like to announce that we are in the process of filming our upcoming episodes:

FESTIVALS: What’s your favorite Kentucky festival? Does it help raise funds for a local nonprofit or charity?

HISTORY: Whether they are helping to preserve it or educate us about it, History is a critical part of our Kentucky foundation.

HOUSING:In addition to homeless people, there are many people that don’t know how to buy a house or can’t afford it. Fortunately for us, there are many nonprofits in our state that help people learn about housing and even provide it.

We would like to kindly request your support in their production. If you are a sponsor or know an individual or organization who could provide sponsorship for the episodes in the above mentioned categories, please contact us.
