DATE NIGHT VOLUNTEERING

DATE NIGHTREVISITED

DATE NIGHT VOLUNTEERING

February 14th, the day most of us typically celebrate with flowers, chocolates, and dinner; all of which remind us of another date night. Then the rest of us try to do something extravagant and memorable, which usually entails stress, time, and money. If either of these were you this past holiday – there’s still time to redeem yourself on your next date. This year we’ve come up with a solution that’s memorable, fun, and best of all, free.
If February really is the month of love, what better way to spend it than spreading it? Not only is this cheap and easy, it’s romantic and unforgettable. By taking the day to volunteer with your loved ones, you can learn more about each other, feel good, meet people, help your community, and celebrate in the most appropriate way.
Here’s how to get started:
Step 1: Find a place or organization in your area where you can give back and help out.
Step 2: Get in contact with them prior to arriving – that way everyone’s on the same page!
Step 3: Take your partner, friends, family – whomever you want (or if you’re alone that’s great too!), and enjoy the goodness of giving.
Switch it up and celebrate February by starting a new tradition. Save the restaurant nights for another month and try our idea, we think you’ll fall in love with it.

LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD NONPROFITS

volunteer in your community

It’s that time of year again, we’re planning for this year’s round of nonprofits to be featured in our 4-Time EMMY nominated series.

Last year we learned a lot covering nonprofits helping with disabilities and preserving history. This year we’re looking at nonprofits working to provide dental health, help veterans and help animals. That’s at least THREE NEW SHOWS for 2017! If you know of an organization in one of these categories, PLEASE NOMINATE THEM! If you work for an organization like this, NOMINATE YOURSELF!

It’s an easy thing to do on our website and only takes a couple of minutes. We’ll get in touch with each agency to discuss the possibility of featuring them on the show which will air many times throughout the state on several stations including KET. What’s even better, featured agencies will receive a copy of their segment to use for promotion, grants, fundraising, etc.

DO YOUR PART- help a nonprofit by letting us know why they should be featured!

Remember, you can watch past episodes of kNOwMORE almost any day of the week, either on KETKY every Tuesday at 1:30pm est or one of our statewide partner stations in your community.

Community Volunteering

SHOW THANKS IN YOUR COMMUNITY- VOLUNTEER!

community volunteering

As an intern for kNOwMORE Nonprofits, I thought it would be GREAT to become more involved by community volunteering. With the holidays near, there’s no better way to celebrate than food and cheer. Which is exactly what was accomplished at Lexington Rescue Mission this past Wednesday as I helped serve meals with fellow University of Kentucky students. Lexington Rescue Mission provides food and clothing as well as financial, and career services. They also help people with utility assistance, bus passes, job training, and transitioning from halfway houses.

I helped serve an array of foods for lunch including chicken noodle soup, green beans, fresh salad, and bread with a delicious slice of chocolate, vanilla, or red velvet cake. After lunch was served, everyone was allowed to pick up a free bag of bread and home grown sweet potatoes, the largest I have ever seen!

One of the most important things I noticed while volunteering at Lexington Rescue Mission, was the welcoming spirit and family vibe. Each worker and volunteer gladly welcomed me with open arms. As I was serving meals, I watched as Donna Junker, a Lexington Rescue Mission worker, interact with members of the community. They were reading, laughing, sharing opinions, and truly enjoying each other’s company. “People know that they have a place where other people care about them.” say Junker. I spoke with Charlie Brooker, a visually impaired regular at Lexington Rescue Mission, he mentioned that all he does every day is “Eat and bug Donna!” He definitely kept us laughing throughout my entire visit.
To anyone looking for a warming and welcoming Nonprofit for the holidays, Lexington Rescue Mission should definitely be at the top of your VOLUNTEER LIST!

Helping Kentucky Nonprofits

THANK YOU -THANK YOU -THANK YOU!

Hey kNOwMORE Fans and Sponsors,

Today, we want to take time to thank you for helping Kentucky nonprofits. It is finally fall in the Bluegrass state, making it a wonderful time to kick start the Thanksgiving season. With that in mind, we want to say THANK YOU to our sponsors!

You have helped in more ways than you know, giving Kentucky nonprofits the exposure they deserve for their commendable services.
Here are 3 reasons how being a Sponsor for kNOwMORE benefits YOU too!

1. GREAT publicity! That’s right, nearly 24/7! Our show is showcased online and on numerous networks around Kentucky. You can catch our show on KET, MetroTV in Louisville, in Western KY and Northern Kentucky. Your organization’s name will be on display for each show, as well as on our very own social media pages including Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook!

2. Your Organization is helping the communities across the commonwealth! After airing on TV, each agency receives an HD digital copy of their story to use for promotion, fundraising, grants, recruiting and social media; saving them thousands of dollars in marketing production. By sponsoring kNOwMORE, YOU have become a part of this movement!

3. Sponsoring kNOwMORE not only gives you exposure for your company/organization, but also gives you the ‘right’ kind of exposure. This will help your organization receive good publicity for being involved in your communities.
It’s never too late to lend a helping hand! Contact us to learn how you can partner on this exciting project for 2017 and beyond.

2016 EMMY NOMINATIONS kNOwMORE NONPROFITS

2016 EMMY NOMINATIONS kNOwMORE NONPROFITS

Founded by the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestras in July 2013, North Limestone MusicWorks fosters positive youth development by providing equitable access to intense, high-quality music education for Lexington’s Northside district. All MusicWorks students attend Arlington Elementary School, a Title 1 school where 95% of students participate in the free or reduced lunch program. MusicWorks is an El Sistema – inspired initiative operating daily after school for 35 second, third and fourth graders who receive free instrument use and instruction from conservatory-trained active musicians..

diss qr tagTwo significant challenges facing the NoLi neighborhood are student retention and academic development. Arlington Elementary has named student retention as the chief obstacle for MusicWorks to overcome. The faculty seek to cultivate lasting relationships with students and their families, thus making the program and anchor of the community and ultimately creating an incentive to remain in the neighborhood.

The NoLi MusicWorks’ primary goal is to use music education as a tool to teach positive social values and to make each child feel that they are an asset within their community. By nurturing interpersonal development skills in an orchestral setting, MusicWorks seeks to inspire its students to achieve more in their personal and academic pursuits, alongside their musical endeavors. The goal of MusicWorks is not to produce professional musicians but rather to use the skills cultivated in an immersion-style orchestral setting to develop healthy, contributing citizens.
