Kentucky Nonprofits & Water Videos Available Online In January


NONPROFITS & WATER SERIES NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE!

Kentucky Riverkeeper acts as the voice and face of the river, sponsoring educational forums with a variety of constituents among schools, communities, and political leaders and developing strategies to identify and draw attention to pollution along the Kentucky River.

River Sweep is a volunteer shoreline cleanup of the Ohio River. During a single day in 2013, 18,000 people volunteered and removed approximately 7,000 tons of trash and debris along more than 3,000 miles of shoreline (from Pennsylvania to Illinois) along the Ohio, Allegheny, Monongahela, Beaver and Kentucky Rivers were cleaned.

The River Discovery Center is a private, non-profit, educational institution whose primary mission is to stimulate an interest in and teach the public about the importance of America’s rivers to the development of the nation, and in particular upon the Four Rivers Region.

Bluegrass Greensource has fostered recycling and water quality initiatives in more than 300 businesses, over 70 schools and more than 50 apartment complexes in Lexington. It has continually pursued its mission by providing outreach programs that focus on household hazardous waste, rain barrels, environmentally-friendly lawn care, waste reduction, rain gardens, energy efficiency and more,

The new two-part series on nonprofits working with water premieres December 12th at 3pm on KETKY.

Our tenth episode, “What Would It Be Like Without Water”, Part Two, will feature segments on Paducah’s River Discovery Center where we’ll learn about commerce, travel, tourism and the history of the four rivers of Western Kentucky. Our second story will look at the Kentucky River Keeper, where we’ll learn about new river trails and recreational uses for our water systems, including dams along the Kentucky River.

Hosted by Brian Simmons, this show will outline what it would be like without these critical educational and protective initiatives and how our communities can get involved.

We will have traveled from Rabitt Hash to Ft. Boonesboro to Paducah to take an indepth look at Kentucky’s waterways and how they are used for sustenance, commerce and recreation.

DON’T MISS: RIVERBLAST 2014- Sat. Aug 16th

vote for a water nonprofit kNOwMORE will be at Fort Boonesborough State Park on Saturday August 16 encouraging Kentucky river awareness producing a story on the 2014 River Blast.
This will be the first of what hopes to be a successful annual event located at different river cities throughout the state.
The event will start with paddle races on the river, including a 21 mi race for serious competitors along with another 6 mi race for novices and people just wanting to participate, ending with a bonfire on the river and fireworks.
Entertainment will be provided for the whole family, including water & educational exhibits as well as arts and crafts. Local food trucks, vendors, and restaurants will provide food, offering a “taste of the river” themed menu.
River Blast is an event organized by Bluegrass Tomorrow in partnership with Kentucky American Water, the Kentucky River Water Trail Alliance among other sponsors and partners. More information along with registration forms, waivers, and how you can become a sponsor can be found HERE.

Surgery on Sunday, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides essential outpatient surgical services for free for those in need who cannot afford insurance and who are not eligible for federal or state programs. Patients are referred from existing organizations in the community and receive much needed surgical procedures. Their services are provided by doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to reach out to those in need.
