Bluegrass Greensource has fostered recycling and water quality initiatives in more than 300 businesses, over 70 schools and more than 50 apartment complexes in Lexington. Last summer, kNOwMORE found out just what it takes to be environmentally conscious and had some fun learning how to create your very own rain barrel.

Surgery on Sunday, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides essential outpatient surgical services for free for those in need who cannot afford insurance and who are not eligible for federal or state programs. Patients are referred from existing organizations in the community and receive much needed surgical procedures. Their services are provided by doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to reach out to those in need.

This story, part of our episode featuring Nonprofits Keeping Kentucky Healthy, was recently nominated for an Emmy Award in the Health/Science/Environment-Program category.
